Dual Enrolled at Delta College
What is Chemical Process Technology?
The Chemical Process Technology profession is as diverse as it is challenging. The Chemical Process Technician controls equipment and systems that process chemical substances into industrial or consumer products. Through education and on-the-job training you will learn to: use proper operating procedures; understand basic and complex chemical reactions; interpret laboratory test results; and correlate process equipment data gathered from process instrumentation.
Technical SKILLS
You will develop skills to operate a chemical manufacturing process
•Monitor and record process conditions, including temperatures, pressures, vacuum, and material flow
•Monitor process stability to maintain high standards of quality
•Learn and understand environmental regulations and requirements
•Continue learning and training in the latest advanced process and control technologies
•Develop and maintain high standards of safety awareness
•Understand the need for high standards of cleanliness in the work area
•Analyze laboratory and sampling results to maintain process and quality standards
•Learn a variety of chemical processes and develop ideas to improve them
Operations SKILLS
Learn how to operate the following:
•Distillation columns
•Batch and continuous reactors
•Mixing and blending tanks and kettles
•Simple and intricate valve headers and assemblies
•Filtration processes
•Simple and complex instruments to control processes
•Internet and intranet
•Sampling equipment
•Inventory management techniques
Opportunities for Development
•Interaction in a team atmosphere
•Development of a true sense of responsibility and accountability
•Career paths, which include promotions, potential supervisory and technical roles, such as an electrician, millwright, pipe fitter, carpenter or into professional roles such as an engineer.
•Career-long educational and personal development opportunities – it’s not “JUST A JOB”!
